How to Fly Fish
Going fly fishing is a great way to relax and have fun. You will need a few things before
you can get started such as a fly rod, a reel with line, flies, good shoes or
wading boots and either shorts or hip waders. Then you should probably read the
area’s regulations to know what kind of hooks you can use, how many fish you can
keep and also what types of fish there are in the body of water you are fishing.
Once you have your equipment and know some of the guidelines you’re ready to
fish! For your first time I recommend using dry flies as they are a great way to
learn the ropes of fly fishing. Find a good river with lots of areas for fish to
hide in and cast out downstream. Let your fly float upstream before casting
again and if a fish does bite you’re in for a boatload of fun. You will see the
fish grab the fly and when this happens pull your rod tip up. Don’t do this too
hard as you will rip the out of the fish’s mouth. Carefully pull the line in
with your other hand and pull the fish onto shore. Using your hand or a set of
pliers take the hook out of the fish’s mouth and you are now confronted with two
choices. You can either release the fish or keep it to eat later. Once you have
your first fish caught you will never be able to stop fishing!
